Mesotherapy Fat Loss/ Lipodissolve Treatment
Despite a healthy diet and regular exercise many people suffer from areas of fat and cellulite that are stubborn to remove, even on individuals who are relatively fit and toned. Lipodissolve and Mesotherapy involve multiple injections of active ingredients into areas of hard to remove body fat, seemingly melting it away and expelling it from the body. The Lipodissolve treatment utilizes a safe soy based compound that, when injected directly into the area of concern, breaks apart the fat molecule dissolving it into a liquid that is naturally eliminated from the body through sweat, urine or faeces. The soybean extract named phosphatidylcholine has the same molecular structure as the phosphatidylcholine found in the human body, and its main function is to break down fat and cholesterol. The extract has also been proven to assist in the increase of metabolism and liver function.
Mesotherapy injections for fat loss also involve the injection of additional beneficial active ingredients in the solution, which may include various medications that break down the fat cells faster, prevent fat cells from storing more fat, and stimulate a more rapid release of the fat that is already stored. These prescription medications are only available to physicians from FDA approved compounding pharmacies.
Is Mesotherapy New? Where Does Mesotherapy Come From?
Mesotherapy is a technique invented in 1952 by Dr. Michel Pistor to deliver medications just below the skin surface. While pills expose the entire body to chemical side effects, Mesotherapy is injected only where it is needed. Over the past 50 years, more than 15,000 physicians world-wide have used Mesotherapy for many uses including the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions, as well as sports injuries.
In 1987, the French Academy of Medicine recognized Mesotherapy as an inherent part of traditional medicine. The International Society of Mesotherapy encompasses 14 countries throughout Europe and South America . Today, Mesotherapy is used all over the world, including the USA , as a safe and effective alternative to surgery in the practice of Cosmetic & Aesthetic Medicine.
Mesotherapy is the practice of using microinjections of conventional or homeopathic medication and/or vitamins into the mesoderm or middle layer of skin to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body. Mesotherapy has been touted as the latest breakthrough in aesthetic medicine for body sculpting, cellulite reduction, and skin rejuvenation. Mesotherapy is also used in Pain Management, Sports Medicine, Sports Injuries and Bone Calcifications.
Does Mesotherapy Replace Liposuction?
In many cases Mesotherapy offers an alternative to even the safest form of liposuction, tumescent liposuction, (see table below). Tumescent liposuction has been recognized world wide as the technique permitting the greatest safety, the most rapid recovery, the least pain and the best aesthetic results.
While tumescent liposuction offers superior safety and result its important to remember tumescent liposuction can only be handled by the hands of an expert surgeon.
Mesotherapy involves the injection of certain medications into the mesoderm layer of the skin. Mesotherapy is a very good treatment for localized fat deposits of the chin, saddle bag, abdomen, and thighs. The medication (PC/DC) is used to emulsify and destroy fat cells by destroying the fat cell membrane.
Once the mechanism of action occurs, the fat is absorbed back into the body. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the active ingredient and each injection covers a treatment area about the size of a quarter. Multiple injections (# of treatments) are required and may not work effectively on older patients, lax skin, and for patients looking for instant gratification.
The treatments are very effective but are a series of injections over a period of at least a month. This is one of the most effective treatments for localized fat and results are dependent upon compliance of following through the series of injections.
Mesotherapy is a non-invasive alternative supported by a 1994-95 study on “topical fat reduction” by UCLA researchers. This study concluded women who had Mesotherapy injections lost weight even without diet or exercise. About 100 people a year die because of liposuction, Mesotherapy has no deaths, stokes or heart attacks. A patient’s major concern with Mesotherapy is simple bruising and minimal discomfort for a few days.
|Surgical Procedure||Non Invasive Procedure|
|Removes Fat Cells||Removes Fat from the Fat Cells|
|Cannot be used where there is cellulite||Can be used wherever there is cellulite|
|Down Time = 2 weeks +||No down time|
|Weight Gain Back in Abnormal Places||Weight Gain Back Where it Lost|
|Appearance of Cellulite & Dimpling Common||Cellulite Eliminated & Maintained with Diet|
|Significant Bruising and Pain||Minimal Bruising and Pain|
|Restrictive Garment Worn Post-Operation for Several Weeks||Wear Loose Clothing After Treatment|
Who is Suitable for Mesotherapy?
Generally, most healthy adults 18 to 80 may have mesotherapy for body sculpting and weight loss, cellulite treatment, and “mesolift” skin rejuvenation.
Mesotherapy should only be administered under the guidance of a health care Practitioner.
Please be sure to mention if any of the following conditions is applicable to you so your physician can assess if treatment is appropriate:
If you are pregnant, you are taking blood thinners, you are an insulin dependent diabetic, if you have cancer, if you have AIDS, you have coronary artery heart disease or heart dysfunction, if you have arrhythmias or irregular heart rhythm, you have a history of blood clots or strokes, or if you are immune-compromised and/ or are an organ transplant recipient.
What Ingredients will be Injected into my Body?
Mesotherapy injections generally are a solution of various vitamins, minerals, enzymes, plant extracts, anesthetics, medications and amino acids. The ingredients in the solution depend on your individual treatment needs and the desired effect you want to achieve.
How fast will I see results?
The timing on when someone will see results depend on the area treated and the extent of the problem. Eye Fat pads will usually show visible improvement after the first treatment. Larger areas with cellulite and fat should show improvement after the first 3-4 treatments.
How many treatments will I need?
A treatment cycle could require as few as 4 and as many as 10 treatments or more depending on the size of the area being treated and the results desired.
Will the results last?
Mesotherapy for the treatment of cellulite or targeted body sculpting and spot fat reduction, including weight loss are effective treatments and will last. Maintaining the weight loss and optimal sculpting result requires consistent exercise (with cardio and light resistance training) and consistent food management discipline (emphasis on lean protein and low GI carbohydrates).
Patients generally will elect to have “touch up” treatments every 6 – 12 months.
How long is the “down time” and recovery time?
There is no down time or recovery time for this procedure. The patient will be back to regular activities immediately, even straight back to work.
Hot showers should be avoided for 8 hours. If treatments were performed on the face, avoid makeup for at least 4 hours.
Are the treatments painful?
The majority of patients experience only minimal discomfort.
For those who have discomfort, a topical local anesthetic cream can be applied approximately 30-45minutes prior to the procedure.
Ice can also be applied after the procedure if necessary.
What are the Side Effects and Risks of Mesotherapy?
Possible side effects are generally mild and may include a short period of burning or itching, as well as temporary soreness which can last from a few minutes to as much as two days.
Temporary bruising is common yet most bruises fade within one week and certainly by two weeks they should be completely gone.
Potential but rare side effects can include: Flushing , Vagal response, Allergies & Nausea.
